The Yucatan peninsula borders the old traditions and modern progress just as it margins between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It covers the Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo. It is also the home of grand archaeological and historic sites and also bursting with lovely modern beaches and resorts, and elegantly charming haciendas and mansions.
The peninsula is a wide limestone area with porous limestones that create cenotes or deep-water filled limestone sinkholes and are sources of water in the area. Cenotes proved to be of religious importance to the ancient Mayan culture since they were believed to be passages to the underworld.
When you are in the Yucatan peninsula, first thing you would usually want to do is to discover its controversial ancient history. Certain buildings and structures still remain well-preserved they will actually pull you back in time. In fact, the Yucutan peninsula is one of the richest archaeological places in Mesoamerica.
