Me and my wife are planning on traveling to visit the site of Chichen Itza together on our honeymoon in a couple weeks. But we are weary due to the high amounts of murders we are hearing on the television and that they are target tourists, even in the yucatan. has anyone gone recently? how safe do you think it is, thanks…we would be staying ata hotel near the site

It is very safe the danger may be the heat because sweat and burn a lot of assaults and murders no problem is very safe.

My family and I went to cancun during spring break in march and drove to yucatan. its about a 2 hr drive. I honestly didn’t see any thing weird going on. The nicest people live there and chichen itza is a very humble and poor town but every one is really nice. You’ll have a blast. Just wear lots of sunscreen and a hat because its soooooooo hot. Enjoy! oh and i must mention that you can’t go up the pyramids any more because they’re so old. Its a beauty though and you got to see it!

Trust me, It is extremely safe in the yucatan peninsula……..If you stay in tourist designated areas.Don’t go into random villages and talk to random people. My family and I go to Playa Del Carmen every year, and we are always safe because we stick to tourist populated areas. murders and drug dealers don’t come their because there is too many people watching( Well, on 5th avenue, you will find 1 or 2 drug dealers, but they aren’t very dangerous). If you are staying in a hotel or resort, ask the concierge what places are safe and what places aren’t.

The yucatan peninsula is no more dangerous then the average city in the U.S.A. Also, when you are down there DON’T RENT A CAR. That has been the worst thing that has happened to my family down there. Some mexican people are so poor, that when they see a tourist driving a car, they will cause an accident so the tourist will have to pay them money. It happened to my uncle twice! Because you are in a foreign country, have must pay them. Since the incident, my family and I always take a taxi.k

Lastly, if you do go, I hope you have a great time at Chichen Itza. It is very beautiful and stunning. They have people trying to sell you souvenirs on the gounds. Also, it is Scorching Hot there. When we went, it had to be 105 degrees at the least.
