Any comments about Mérida (México)?
Posted In: merida vacations by admin
I am considering to spend some time (vacation and possibility of retirement) in Mérida (México). I read about this city. It sounds positive however I am wondering if what I read is just a tourist "trap"? México is "on the map" of several foreign ministries as a place not to go. Any suggestion/comments? Thank you in advance for your responses.
Been there once, it is a little dirty (got really sick) and the streets did not feel very safe (but I had no problems).

it would help the economy instaed of taking away from your economy
not trying to be rude but it just makes sense to me

20/10/09 @ 9:49 pmThe summer gets pretty hot, the winters are pretty mild, but you can get a cold front that crosses the Gulf of Mexico and makes it pretty cold, so don’t throw away your winter coat.
When searching for a retirement home, make sure it’s not on a bus route–Merida buses are some of the loudest in Mexico.
Besides the hot summers, cold snaps and buses, Merida is a wonderful retirement city. It’s not the tourist trap that Cancun is, but Cancun is close enough that you can zip over there if you ever want to check it out.
You’ll get used to doing things earlier in the day and taking a siesta in the afternoon heat, and after a while, you won’t notice the bus noise.

20/10/09 @ 11:30 pmMerida is hot, very very hot, a good part of the year, If you can stand hot, humid weather a good part of the time, you might like it. They are pushing it as a retirement haven but for the life of me I don’t know why.
To me it seems too far from quality medical services and other perks like big city shopping.
Mexico is a wonderful country, and is as safe as any comparable area of the US. Unless you use or deal drugs, you should be fine.
